Η μελέτη της Urban Residence στη Λιβαδειά ξεκίνησε κατά τη διάρκεια του σταδίου κατασκευής της κατοικίας, με στόχο την αναδιαμόρφωση των εσωτερικών χώρων και τη δημιουργία ενός σύγχρονου περιβάλλοντος κατοίκησης, όπου το φως, η κίνηση και η οπτική συνέχεια αποτελούν βασικά στοιχεία της αρχιτεκτονικής σύνθεσης.
Κατά την ανάθεση της μελέτης, ο χώρος υποδοχής χαρακτηριζόταν από μικρά ανοίγματα, τα οποία περιόριζαν τόσο τη θέα προς τον εξωτερικό χώρο όσο και τη διείσδυση του φυσικού φωτός στο εσωτερικό. Η σχεδιαστική παρέμβαση επικεντρώθηκε στην κατάργηση αυτών των περιορισμών, με τη δημιουργία ενός μεγάλου ενιαίου ανοίγματος προς τον εξωτερικό εξώστη. Η νέα σχέση εσωτερικού και εξωτερικού χώρου ενίσχυσε τη φυσική φωτεινότητα της κατοικίας, διεύρυνε οπτικά τον χώρο και δημιούργησε μια άμεση σύνδεση με το περιβάλλον.
Οι κύριοι χώροι υποδοχής, η κουζίνα, το καθιστικό και η τραπεζαρία οργανώθηκαν ως ένας ενιαίος, ανοιχτός χώρος, που λειτουργεί ως κεντρικός πυρήνας της κατοικίας. Η ενοποίηση των λειτουργιών επιτρέπει μεγαλύτερη ευελιξία στη χρήση, ομαλή κυκλοφορία και συνεχή οπτική επικοινωνία μεταξύ των διαφορετικών ζωνών. Η κουζίνα σχεδιάστηκε με ειδικά κατασκευασμένα ερμάρια, οργανωμένα σε κατακόρυφες στήλες, οι οποίες λειτουργούν ως αρχιτεκτονικά στοιχεία και όχι απλώς ως αποθηκευτικές μονάδες. Η διάταξή τους περιορίζει την άμεση οπτική επαφή με τον χώρο εργασίας της κουζίνας, διατηρώντας την καθαρότητα της εικόνας του ενιαίου χώρου υποδοχής.
Η κατοικία, λόγω της διαμπερούς διάταξής της, παρουσίαζε αρχικά εκτεταμένες εσωτερικές διαδρομές με περιορισμένο φυσικό φωτισμό. Για την αντιμετώπιση αυτού του ζητήματος σχεδιάστηκαν κατακόρυφα στοιχεία από γυψοσανίδα, τα οποία λειτουργούν ως φίλτρα φωτός και ως στοιχεία αρχιτεκτονικής σύνθεσης. Τα κενά ανάμεσα στις κατακόρυφες επιφάνειες επιτρέπουν στο φυσικό φως να εισχωρεί στους διαδρόμους, ενώ παράλληλα δημιουργούν μια αίσθηση βάθους και διαφάνειας. Ο ενσωματωμένος, διακριτικός τεχνητός φωτισμός αναδεικνύει τα στοιχεία αυτά κατά τις βραδινές ώρες, μετατρέποντας τις διαδρομές σε ενεργά αρχιτεκτονικά σημεία της κατοικίας.
Η υλικότητα της κατοικίας βασίστηκε σε μια ισορροπημένη σύνθεση διαφορετικών υφών και επιφανειών. Οι λακαριστές επιφάνειες προσδίδουν καθαρότητα και σύγχρονο χαρακτήρα, ενώ το ξύλο εισάγει θερμότητα και φυσική αίσθηση στους χώρους. Το μάρμαρο χρησιμοποιείται ως στοιχείο διαχρονικής ποιότητας, προσθέτοντας βάθος και πολυτέλεια στις επιφάνειες, ενώ οι ψηφίδες στους χώρους υγιεινής δημιουργούν ιδιαίτερες υφές και έντονες αντανακλάσεις φωτός.
Η αντίθεση μεταξύ γυαλιστερών και ματ επιφανειών δημιουργεί μια δυναμική σχέση ανάμεσα στο φως και στα υλικά. Οι ανακλαστικές επιφάνειες ενισχύουν τη φωτεινότητα και την αίσθηση χώρου, ενώ οι ματ υφές προσφέρουν ηρεμία και ισορροπία. Η χρωματική παλέτα κινείται σε ουδέτερους, θερμούς τόνους, με αποχρώσεις του λευκού, του γκρι και φυσικών χρωμάτων, δημιουργώντας ένα ήρεμο και διαχρονικό εσωτερικό περιβάλλον.
Ο σχεδιασμός του φωτισμού αποτέλεσε αναπόσπαστο μέρος της αρχιτεκτονικής μελέτης. Ο συνδυασμός φυσικού φωτός, κρυφού γραμμικού φωτισμού και επιλεγμένων τεχνητών πηγών δημιουργεί διαφορετικές ατμόσφαιρες, αναδεικνύοντας τις γεωμετρίες, τις υφές και τις λεπτομέρειες των υλικών.
Συνολικά, η Urban Residence αποτελεί μια μελέτη μετασχηματισμού ενός συμβατικού κελύφους σε έναν σύγχρονο, φωτεινό και λειτουργικό χώρο κατοίκησης. Μέσα από τη διαχείριση των ανοιγμάτων, την ενοποίηση των χώρων, τον σχεδιασμό ειδικών κατασκευών και την προσεκτική επιλογή υλικών και φωτισμού, η κατοικία αποκτά μια νέα αρχιτεκτονική ταυτότητα, βασισμένη στη σχέση ανάμεσα στον χώρο, το φως και την καθημερινή εμπειρία.

The design study of the Urban Residence in Livadeia began during the construction phase of the building, with the aim of redefining the interior spaces and creating a contemporary living environment where light, movement, and visual continuity become fundamental elements of the architectural composition.
At the beginning of the intervention, the reception area was characterized by small openings that limited both the visual connection with the exterior and the penetration of natural light into the interior. The design approach focused on eliminating these constraints by replacing the existing openings with a large-scale opening towards the exterior balcony. This new relationship between the interior and the outdoor space enhanced natural illumination, visually expanded the living areas, and established a direct connection with the surrounding environment.
The main reception areas, kitchen, living room, and dining area were organized as a unified open-plan space, forming the central core of the residence. The integration of functions allows greater flexibility of use, smooth circulation, and continuous visual communication between the different zones. The kitchen was designed with custom-made cabinetry organized into vertical storage units, which operate as architectural elements rather than simple functional components. Their arrangement prevents direct visual exposure of the kitchen workspace, preserving the clean and uninterrupted character of the main living area.
Due to the through-layout configuration of the residence, the initial design presented extended internal circulation zones with limited access to natural light. To address this challenge, vertical elements made of gypsum board were introduced, functioning both as light filters and as architectural features. The gaps between these vertical surfaces allow daylight to penetrate into the corridors, creating depth, transparency, and a sense of continuity throughout the residence. Integrated and discreet artificial lighting enhances these elements during the evening hours, transforming the circulation areas into active architectural features.
The materiality of the residence is based on a balanced composition of different textures and surfaces. Lacquered finishes introduce a sense of clarity and contemporary elegance, while wood elements add warmth and a natural character to the interiors. Marble is used as a timeless material of quality, providing depth, refinement, and a sense of luxury, while mosaic surfaces in the bathrooms create distinctive textures and subtle reflections of light.
The contrast between glossy and matte surfaces establishes a dynamic relationship between light and materiality. Reflective surfaces enhance brightness and the perception of space, while matte textures introduce calmness and visual balance. The color palette is based on neutral and warm tones, incorporating shades of white, grey, and natural hues, creating a serene and timeless interior atmosphere.
Lighting design was an integral part of the architectural concept. The combination of natural daylight, concealed linear lighting, and carefully selected artificial light sources creates different spatial atmospheres, emphasizing geometries, textures, and material details.
Overall, the Urban Residence represents the transformation of a conventional building shell into a contemporary, luminous, and functional living environment. Through the reconfiguration of openings, the integration of interior functions, the design of custom architectural elements, and the careful selection of materials and lighting, the residence acquires a renewed architectural identity, based on the relationship between space, light, and everyday living experience.
